Rape accused arrested in police encounter in Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), May 5 (UNI) A 26-year-old youth accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl was arrested in an encounter with the police in Nigohi area of Shahjahanpur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Monday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi said that Ashraf, a resident of Nigohi area, had raped a minor two days ago and fled after threatening to kill her if she told anyone. "The victim's mother had filed a case against Ashraf at the Nigohi police station on May 03. The police team was continuously making efforts to arrest the accused," he said.
He said that acting on a tip off by an informer, the Nigohi police team surrounded the accused Ashraf near Dhuliya Mod village Talgaon on Sunday night. "Seeing himself surrounded, Ashraf started firing on the police team with a pistol. In retaliatory firing Ashraf sustained bullet injury in his leg and was arrested," he said.
The SP said that Illicit pistols, cartridges and a motorcycle were recovered from the accused. "The accused has been admitted to the medical college for treatment by the police," he said.

JK LG conducts on-site inspection of Amarnath Shrine Board’s Office

Srinagar, May 5 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conducted the on-site inspection and reviewed ongoing construction work of the Office and Yatri Niwas of the Amarnath Shrine Board at the Pantha Chowk here on Monday. The Lieutenant Governor ascertained the progress of the work and emphasised on timely completion of the project, an official spokesman said.He was informed that the construction work of four floors is completed and the rest of the two floors are expected to be completed by the end of the month of June. The Lieutenant Governor interacted with the officials and directed them to accelerate the progress of identified works for the convenience of pilgrims.
