RJD, Congress kept Bihar a backward state: PM

Siwan, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday alleged that both Congress and RJD had kept Bihar a backward state when they were in power, while his government was making all efforts to make the state a growth engine of developed India.

Addressing a public meeting here, Modi said both RJD and Congress were in power for a long period in Bihar, but they did not make any effort to accelerate the pace of development and improve condition of the people of the state. Leaders of both parties kept themselves busy in ensuring the development of their own family members, showing scant concern for the masses, he added.

"Approach of RJD and Congress has been anti investment, anti development and anti Bihar ", the PM said, adding that there used to be 'Gunda Raj' in Bihar when RJD was in power in the state. Youths were not getting jobs and they were forced to migrate to other states in search of livelihood, he said.

Modi said 3.75 crore people of Bihar had come out of poverty due to sustained efforts made by the NDA government. Bihar had played a vital role in reducing the poverty of the country at national level due to efforts made by the government for accelerating the pace of development, he added.

PM said 57 lakh families were given houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna in Bihar while 1.10 lakh families were given benefits of the scheme in Siwan district of the state alone.

At the national level, four crore families had got the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna, he added.

Modi said the rail engine factory established at Marhaura in Saran district of Bihar, had put the state on world map of manufacturing and export. Rail engines manufactured in Saran, were being exported to several countries including South Africa, he stated.

The Prime Minister said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, heading the NDA government in Bihar, had worked hard, turning the state into a launch pad of accelerated development. Bihar was on fast track to development with accelerated pace and the state was all set to become the growth engine of developed India, he added.

Modi said he was working hard to improve condition of all sections of society without any discrimination. The entire country was like his family members and he would not stop till their conditions were improved, the PM said. UNI KKS SSP
