Siddaramaiah announces Rs 10 lakh compensation for Pahalgam victims' kins

Bengaluru, Apr 23 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of citizens from the state who lost their lives in the incident.
"Among the tourists from Karnataka, Manjunath Rao and Bharat Bhushan have tragically died. A team of officials has already been dispatched to Kashmir to ensure the safety of Kannadigas and to make necessary arrangements," the Chief Minister said in a statement issued here.
Calling the attack a "premeditated plot," the Chief Minister termed the killing of innocent people as "highly condemnable" and criticised the central intelligence agencies for their failure to detect and prevent such a largescale terrorist act, which claimed around 28 lives.
"There was a failure of intelligence during the Pulwama attack earlier, and now a similar lapse has occurred. The central intelligence agency has once again failed in its responsibility,” he said, urging the Centre to act decisively to eliminate terrorism and secure the lives of citizens.
The Chief Minister said the state government is committed to supporting the victims' families and will positively consider extending further assistance as needed.
Efforts are underway to repatriate the mortal remains of the deceased Kannadigas.
