Six-year-old brain-dead boy donates Kidneys, gives new life to two Children

Bhubaneswar, May 12 (UNI) The kidneys of a six-year-old boy, who was declared brain dead following an accident, were donated to two hospitals in Bhubaneswar on Monday, offering hope to two children in need of transplants.
SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) once again facilitated a life-saving organ donation, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to critical care and organ transplant initiatives.
The child had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury after a heavy iron gate fell on him in Baripada. He was initially treated at a hospital in Balasore and was later transferred to SUM Ultimate Medicare on May 7. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, his condition did not improve.
Doctors conducted the Apnea test twice, after which the child was officially declared brain dead. Following counseling by the hospital’s medical team, the grieving parents made the courageous decision to donate their son's organs to help save the lives of other children.
The hospital promptly coordinated with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), and it was decided to send the boy’s kidneys to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and a private hospital. The organs were successfully retrieved and dispatched to the respective facilities.
This marks the fourth instance in which SUMUM has played a pivotal role in facilitating organ donation. To date, the hospital has helped retrieve 13 organs from brain-dead patients, which have been sent to various hospitals within Odisha and across the country to save lives.
Dr. Swetapadma Dash, CEO of SUMUM, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to promoting organ donation and supporting families in making such life-saving choices.
