New Delhi/Colombo, Apr 25 (UNI) Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and unequivocally condemned the Pahalgam terror attack. He also expressed hope that the current tensions will ease soon and that regional peace and stability will be restored swiftly.
The MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X said that the Sri Lankan President expressed his country’s solidarity with India in this difficult time.
“President @anuradisanayake of Sri Lanka spoke with PM @narendramodi and conveyed heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of innocent lives in the terror attack on Indian soil in Pahalgam and unequivocally condemned the heinous act of terror.
“President @anuradisanayake expressed Sri Lanka’s solidarity with India during this difficult time and reaffirmed the shared commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
The Sri Lankan President in a post on X said:
“Deeply shocked by the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 innocent lives. Just spoke with PM @narendramodi to convey Sri Lanka's solidarity & our shared commitment against terrorism. Our hearts go out to the victims' families. We stand with India in these difficult times.”
According to the President’s Office, President Dissanayake expressed his condolences during a telephone call, which lasted for nearly 15 minutes, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, Newswire reported.
The President conveyed profound shock and sorrow upon learning of the terrorist attack and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s unwavering solidarity and brotherhood with the people of India.
He reiterated Sri Lanka’s firm stance against terrorism in all its forms, regardless of where it occurs in the world.
The President expressed the condolences of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the victims of this brutal terrorist attack and their families, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
President Dissanayake further expressed that Sri Lanka hopes the current tensions will ease soon and that regional peace and stability will be restored swiftly, the President's House said.
PM Modi had visited Colombo earlier this month and held talks with President Dissanayake.
The Pahalgam terror attack has led to animosity between India and Pakistan, with both sides downgrading their ties. PM Modi has vowed vengeance against the perpetrators of the terror attack, which has been linked to Pakistan.
