Special rituals observed in Sri Jagannath Temple on Maha Bishuba Sankranti

Puri (Odisha), Apr 14 (UNI) Special rituals were observed at the Sri Jagannath Temple on Monday to mark Maha Bishuba Sankranti, with offerings of Pana—a delicious and healthy drink—made at around ten Hanuman temples.
The idols of ten Hanumans, established in all four directions of the temple complex, are regarded as the protective and guardian deities of Lord Jagannath’s abode.
Hanuman Jayanti, Odia New Year, and Pana Sankranti were celebrated with traditional style and fervor in this pilgrim town.
There was a heavy rush of devotees at prominent Hanuman shrines such as Siddha Mahavir, Siruli Mahavir, and Daria Mahavir temples.
In nearly two dozen martial arts schools (jaga ghars and akhadas) across the town—where Lord Hanuman is the presiding deity and considered a symbol of strength and inspiration—celebrations were held on a grand scale.
Early in the morning, daily rituals were performed, the deity was adorned in new clothes, and Pana was offered.
Pana is a traditional, nutritious drink prepared in almost every Odia household and offered to the deity to mark Hanuman Jayanti and the beginning of the Odia New Year.
From this day, the annual Panjika (almanac) schedule comes into effect for the year.
