Sprinkling of pesticides by drones to be encouraged in Bihar, farmers to get subsidy: Minister

Patna, May 13 (UNI) In a bid to encourage sprinkling of pesticides by farmers, the Bihar government has decided to give subsidy to them and a target of covering 56,056 acres of lands has been fixed for the financial year 2025-26.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who also holds the portfolio of Agriculture department, said that state government had taken a decision to revolutionalise the farming sector by encouraging farmers to use latest technology for their agrarian works.
Sprinkling of pesticides was done for crops by drones covering 27,666 acres of lands in last financial year and target of 56,050 lands had been fixed by government for next fiscal 2025-26, he said.
"Government will provide subsidy of Rs 240 per acre for maximum area of 15 acres to farmers and they can get it for two sprinkling in a year," Sinha said, adding that farmers could get 50 percent of the cost of sprinkling or subsidy of Rs 240 per acre for maximum of 15 acres, whichever is less. One drone could carry 10 litres of pesticides and spray it one acre of land in ten to twelve minutes," he further said.
"Drone sprinkling saves money, labour cost and also helps in boosting the yields," Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that income of farmers would be increased immensely as latest technology would help in lowering the input cost.
Drone sprinkling would be encouraged in all 38 districts of Bihar, he stated.
