SSB arrested Canadian citizen of Indian origin in Bihar

Motihari, May 17 (UNI) A Canadian citizen of Indian origin, Harpreet Singh, was arrested by Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB) at the Raxaul border while crossing to the Indian side from Nepal without valid documents.

SSB sources said here on Saturday that Singh was stopped at the Raxaul border, and during interrogation, he admitted to having crossed from the Nepal border. Singh, a Canadian citizen of Indian origin, had crossed the Indo-Nepal border, and the period of his visa issued by the Government of India ended in 2024, but he did not return to Canada, sources added.

" Singh who had come to India in 2023, was not allowed by officials of Kathmandu Airport to board the plane for Hongkong from where he was to fly for Canada", SSB said adding that his connection with Khalistani activitist was being investigated.

Strict vigil was being maintained along the Nepal border after heightened Indo-Pakistan tension following the operation Sindoor. Singh is originally from Kapurthala district of Punjab and has accepted citizenship in Canada.
