STF of Odisha Police arrest two wildlife criminals, recovers leopard skin

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police has arrested two wildlife criminals and seized a leopard skin from their possession.
According to STF sources on Tuesday, acting on reliable information, an STF team conducted a raid on Monday along State Highway No. 1 on the Phulbani–Baliguda road, near Dahapadar Chhack under Phulbani Sadar Police Station in Kandhamal District.
During the raid, two wildlife criminals—identified as Pradip Mallick and Gutusha Pradhan—were apprehended.
STF personnel recovered one leopard skin and other incriminating documents during the search operation.
The two accused were arrested and forwarded to the Court of SDJM, Phulbani, as they failed to produce any valid authorization for possessing the leopard skin.
The STF has booked them under Sections 303(2), 317(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.The seized leopard skin will be sent to the Director, Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, for biological examination, STF sources said.
