Sukhu govt pushing poor patients to death: BJP leader

Dharamshala, April 18 (UNI) Former minister and senior BJP leader Bikram Singh Thakur has termed the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh insensitive and alleged that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government was playing with the lives of the common people.
He said that the poor and needy patients of the state, who were to be treated in a prestigious institute like the PGI Chandigarh under the Himcare scheme, were being deprived of treatment due to the insensitivity of the state government because the government has not yet paid an outstanding amount of Rs 14 crore to PGI Chandigarh.
Thakur said it was the same Congress government that promised priority to public welfare schemes. Thakur said the Himcare scheme was a historic initiative of the BJP government, which provided free treatment to lakhs of poor people of the state. “The Congress government has put this scheme on hold,” he alleged.
The BJP leader said that on February 25, 2024, the Himachal government signed an MoU with PGI Chandigarh making available the Himcare scheme to the poor patients. “Today, due to the deferment of payment of Rs 14 crore, not only the treatment of 1,478 patients has stopped, but the lives of thousands of patients across the state have come under threat,” he said.
