Chattogram, Apr 28 (UNI) Spinners Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan spun the momentum of the day in the final session as Zimbabwe reached 227-9 at stumps on Day 1 of the second and final Test at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium here on Monday.
Taijul claimed four wickets in the session and ended the day with 5-60, his 16th five-wicket haul in Tests, while Nayeem struck twice as Zimbabwe lost seven wickets for 66 runs in the final session.
Wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga and Blessing Muzarabani are unbeaten on 18 and two respectively and will resume the proceedings on Tuesday.
Zimbabwe began the session on 161-2, having not lost a wicket in the second session, with Sean Williams and Nick Welch unbeaten on 55 and 54 respectively, the Daily Star reported.
Welch, who was struggling with cramps in the second session, played just one delivery after Tea before leaving the field retired hurt. Welch returned to the field later in the day after his side had
been reduced to 216-8, took a single first up, and then got clean bowled by Taijul while attempting
a slog sweep.
In between Welch's two outings, Nayeem dismissed skipper Craig Ervine (five) and Williams (67), Taijul sent back Wellington Masakadza (six) and Richard Ngarava (0) in consecutive deliveries and Vincent Masakesa (eight) got run out while going for a second run that wasn't there for the taking.
Bangladesh bowlers had kept the run-rate in check throughout the day and finally reaped the rewards in the final hour, reducing Zimbabwe from 177-2 to 217-9.
Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat first. The visitors are leading the series 1-0.
