Telangana: BJP MP Etala challenges CM Reddy to prove lack of cabinet nod for Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad, June 19 (UNI) BJP MP Etala Rajender today challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to prove his allegation that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project had not received cabinet approval.
Yesterday, the Chief Minister asserted that the Kaleshwaram project taken up by the previous BRS government did not have the clearance of the then state cabinet.
The multi crore project came before the Cabinet when cost escalation was sought and not for permission or taking it up, the CM added.
Talking to reporters here, Etala, who had served as the Finance Minister in the BRS government between 2014 and 2019, said “If the Chief Minister proves me wrong, I am prepared to quit politics.”
He asserted that former Chief Minister and BRS president KCR had always directed Ministers to seek cabinet approval for major decisions.
“Every decision was taken after cabinet ratification. How can any project be taken up without cabinet approval,” the Malkajgiri BJP questioned.
Accusing the Chief Minister of politicising the Kaleshwaram project, he said the project was constructed to meet the irrigation needs of farmers.
If needed, all documents related to meetings and decisions on the project will be shared with the Chief Minister, he said.
He demanded that the Congress government expedite the Justice P C Ghose Commission’s probe into the Kaleshwaram Project and expose any irregularities, adding, "but our party has demanded a CBI probe into it".
“The BJP is not against any irrigation project. We are against the misuse of power and the allocation of contracts without floating tenders,” he added.
The former Telangana Minister and BJP MP Eatala had earlier appeared before the Ghose Commission, which is probing the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
