Telangana: BRS extends full support to BC Reservation Bill

Hyderabad, Mar 17 (UNI) The opposition BRS party has extended its full support to the Congress government's decision to introduce the Backward Classes (BC) Reservation Bill.
Former Minister Harish Rao, speaking in the Telangana Assembly, wholeheartedly welcomed the bill, which grants 42 percent reservation to BCs in education, employment, and local bodies. He expressed optimism that this move would significantly benefit BC communities.
Harish Rao assured that the BRS party would collaborate with the Congress government to push for the bill’s approval in Parliament. He urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to actively advocate for the bill with the support of his party’s 100 MPs.
Recalling previous initiatives, Harish Rao highlighted that during KCR's tenure as Chief Minister, the BRS government had introduced 50 per cent reservation for BCs in the election of Market Committee chairpersons and directors. Additionally, the BRS government pioneered reservations for the Gowda community in liquor shops.
Ahead of the state budget presentation, Harish Rao put forward three key demands on behalf of the BRS party. He called for 42 per cent reservation for BCs in government contracts, the implementation of the BC Sub-Plan on a carry-forward basis, and the allocation of Rs 20,000 crore for the BC Sub-Plan in the state budget.
He emphasised that these measures do not require Supreme Court and Centre’s approval and urged the state government to expedite their implementation.
