TN: Man held with Rs 13.76 lakh unaccounted cash from express train

Dindigul (Tamil Nadu), Mar 17 (UNI) The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Monday seized an unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 13.76 lakh from a passenger, who travelled in the Delhi-Kanniyakumari Thirukkural Express Train at Dindigul railway station.
Police said when the train arrived at Dindigul railway station, the GRP team conducted routine searches in a few coaches.
One of the passengers, after noticing the police search operation, attempted to run away from a coach with a bag.
The GRP personnel gave chase and apprehended him.
Upon search, the cops found the passenger, identified as Navaneetha Krishnan (44), hailing from Kanniyakumari district had the cash.
Since the passenger could not produce mandatory documents to have the cash, he was interrogated by the senior GRP officials.
He confessed to exchanging foreign currencies with a man in Chennai for Indian currency and returning to his native.
Navaneetha Krishnan along with the seized money was handed over to the Income Tax department officials for further investigation. UNI GSM SSP
