Telangana CM vows justice for SCs through categorisation

Telangana CM vows justice for SCs through categorisation

Hyderabad, Mar 19 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday reaffirmed his government's commitment to addressing the longstanding injustice faced by Scheduled Castes (SCs) community.

Speaking to media on SC categorisation, the Chief Minister highlighted his administration's dedicated efforts in securing justice for the SC community.

Revanth Reddy revealed that his government had presented strong arguments in the Supreme Court, successfully advancing a case that had faced prolonged delays.

He noted that even in BJP-ruled states, SC categorisation had not been implemented, emphasising that Telangana had taken the lead in achieving this milestone.

The Chief Minister stressed that the move to classify SCs into three groups was not intended to harm any community but was a step to ensure justice for all.

He explained that the new structure would provide 1 per cent reservation for Group-1, 9 per cent for Group-2, and 5 per cent for Group-3. The government prioritised placing those with the smallest population and least access to development in Group-1 to ensure equitable growth.

Reddy credited Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his unwavering support, stating that without him, achieving this permanent solution would not have been possible. He also acknowledged the efforts made in the Legislative Assembly, where no party opposed the bill.

To avoid future legal hurdles, the government appointed a one-man commission, which submitted a comprehensive 199-page report supporting the categorisation. The CM underscored the achievement by pointing out that Telangana is the only state in the country to initiate the implementation of the Supreme Court verdict on SC categorisation.

The Chief Minister further highlighted his government's commitment to uplifting the SC community by appointing Madiga community person Prof Kumar Molugaram as Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University — a move unprecedented in two decades — and Professor Qasim as Principal of the Arts College. Additionally, Madiga candidates have been prioritised in key bodies like the Council of Higher Education, Public Service Commission, and Education Commission.

Urging the SC community to make the most of this opportunity, Reddy called for unity and forward-thinking. "If I sit in this chair as your friend, my only aim is to do good for you," he said, encouraging the community to turn this opportunity into a stepping stone for lasting progress.
