Rowdy murdered, 4 nabbed after police shoot out at Erode in TN

Chennai, Mar 19 (UNI) In a shocking incident a notorious rowdy was
hacked to death in broad daylight by an unidentified gang, four members
of which were immediately arrested by the police after opening fire at
them, in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Reports received here said the rowdy identified as John alias Chanakya
was murdered by the armed gang at around noon at Nasiyanur on the
Salem-Coimbatore National Highway.
A native of Salem, John has since shifted to Tiruppur district where he
was running a finance company offering vehicle loans.
After signing at a police station in Salem as part of bail conditions, John
was returning to Tiruppur along with his wife Saranya in their car, when the
gang which was following them in two cars, rammed them into the John's
vehicle and intercepted it.
The gang suddenly came out of the cars and brutally attacked him with deadly
weapons, including machetes, right in front of his wife.
She tried to save her husband and in the process she also suffered cut injuries
on her hand and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
John suffered multiple cut injuries all over his body and bled to death on the
spot in front of his screaming wife.
His body was shifted to Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in
Perundurai for post-mortem.
A patrol police, who passed the spot when the murder took place, immediately
alerted the top officials, who rushed to the scene and tried to nab the killers.
However, they attacked the police and attempted to flee.
Reports said, police first fired in the air and asked them to surrender. As it did
not yield the desired results, the cops opened fire at them in self-defence and
nabbed four of the gang members, identified as Satish, Saravanan, Bhoopalan
and Karthikeyan.
Three of them were shot in their legs, police said, adding, four of them had fled
from the spot.
The nabbed suspects were believed to be part of a larger gang that hacked to
death John in public view.
As tension prevailed in the area following the spine chilling murder, Erode District
Superintendent of Police G.Jawahar and other senior officials visited the spot and
held a preliminary inquest.
