Telangana unveils first-ever tourism policy; taps Miss World 2025 as global launchpad

Hyderabad, May 4 (UNI) In a landmark move to boost the state’s tourism sector, the Telangana government under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has launched its first-ever Tourism Policy, aiming to attract investments worth Rs 15,000 crore and position Telangana as a premier tourist destination in India.
Leveraging the global spotlight of the upcoming Miss World 2025 competition, which will feature representatives from 120 countries and be broadcast live in over 150 nations, the state government plans to promote Telangana's historical, cultural, and spiritual richness on the international stage.
As part of this initiative, Miss World contestants will embark on a curated tour across Telangana’s prominent heritage and tourism landmarks between May 12 and May 21.
The itinerary begins with a heritage walk at Charminar and Laad Bazaar on May 12, followed by a visit to the historic Chowmohalla Palace on May 13.
On May 14, the participants will explore Warangal’s Thousand Pillar Temple, Warangal Fort, and the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple, where they will also witness a performance of the traditional Perini dance. A spiritual visit to Yadagirigutta Temple is scheduled for May 15.
On the same day, contestants will interact with handloom artisans in Pochampally to highlight Telangana’s rich textile heritage. Promoting medical tourism, the delegation will visit Hyderabad’s leading hospitals on May 16.
The day will also include ecotourism activities with visits to the ancient Pillalamarri Tree in Mahabubnagar and the Experience Park in Hyderabad. On May 17, the group will tour Ramoji Film City, one of the world’s largest film studios.
To showcase Telangana’s safety and urban infrastructure, a visit to the Telangana Police Integrated Command and Control Centre is planned for May 18, followed by an evening at the Sunday Funday carnival at Tank Bund. The cultural immersion will culminate on May 21 with participation in arts and crafts workshops at Shilparamam and attendance at an IPL match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.
The new tourism policy is designed to achieve global recognition by establishing Telangana as a hub of heritage, culture, and modernity. It also aims to generate employment through growth in related sectors such as hospitality, handicrafts, and infrastructure while promoting the state’s investor-friendly environment and safety initiatives.
Telangana recorded 155,113 international tourist arrivals in 2024, and the government is optimistic about significantly increasing that number by capitalising on the global reach of the Miss World event.
This initiative marks Telangana’s emergence as a "Multidimensional Tourism Hub," ready to welcome the world and offer a unique experience blending tradition with modernity, according to an official statement here on Sunday.
