Temperatures soar across Himachal; Una scorches at 39°C

Shimla, Apr 24 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh recorded an unusually sharp rise in temperatures on Wednesday, with Una hitting a scorching 39.0°C — the highest temperature in the state.
This marks a significant increase of 3.6 degrees Celsius above the normal, indicating a sudden and early onset of intense summer conditions.
Several other regions across the state also recorded abnormal temperature surges. Hamirpur touched 37.5°C, with a departure of 3.9°C from normal.
Bhuntar recorded 32.4°C, 4.0°C above normal. Bilaspur saw 35.7°C, which was 2.1°C higher than usual. Mandi, Sundernagar, and Dharamshala also experienced temperatures well above their seasonal averages.
One of the most striking anomalies was observed in Berthin, where the temperature reached 34.6°C — nearly 9.7 degrees above normal, highlighting an extreme and rare deviation.
Even typically cooler locations such as Shimla, Kalpa, and Bhuntar experienced a warming trend. Shimla recorded 25.4°C, almost 3 degrees above normal, while Kalpa registered 20.9°C with a 2.8°C departure.
The India Meteorological Department noted no significant change in maximum temperatures over the past 24 hours but emphasised that average maximum temperatures across the state remained above normal.
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak daytime hours.
