Thomas Muller to leave Bayern Munich after 25 years

Berlin, Apr 6 (UNI) An era is coming to an end at Bayern Munich after Thomas Muller announced he will leave the club when his contract expires this summer, ending a remarkable 25-year journey with the German giants, the club confirmed in an official statement.

The 35-year-old confirmed his departure in an open letter to fans published on Saturday, a day after Bayern's 3-1 win at Augsburg. His final games for the club will be at this summer's FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

"This is not a day like any other," Muller wrote. "It has been an incredible journey, full of unforgettable experiences and triumphs. I am grateful to have had this career at my boyhood club."

Muller joined Bayern's academy in 2000 at the age of ten and rose through the youth ranks to become one of the most iconic figures in the club's history.

Since making his senior debut in 2008, the forward has made a record 743 competitive appearances, scoring 247 goals and laying on 273 assists. His list of achievements includes 12 Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, two UEFA Champions League trophies, two FIFA Club World Cups and the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Germany.

Despite still feeling joy on the pitch and being open to continuing his role at the club, Muller revealed that Bayern has decided not to offer him a new contract beyond this season.

"Even though it wasn't my personal wish, I respect the club's decision. I know it wasn't easy for those responsible," he said. Bayern chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen hailed Muller's contribution, describing him as "one of the greatest personalities this club has ever had", while sporting director Max Eberl stressed the "honest and respectful" nature of the talks.

President Herbert Hainer added: "Thomas is the epitome of a Bavarian fairytale career." While Muller's next steps remain uncertain, his immediate focus is clear: "We will give everything to bring the Bundesliga title back to Munich and achieve our dream of the 'Finale Dahoam'.

Bayern plans to honor Muller with a farewell match, underlining his unique legacy at the club.
