TN GI products presented as mementos to delegates of Delimitation meet

Chennai, Mar 22 (UNI) Geographical indication (GI) tagged products along with
a zari shall was presented as mementos/gift hampers to the delegates, who
attended the First Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting against the delimitation
exercise, here on Saturday.
The mementos were personally presented to the delegates by Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister MK Stalin.
Among others who took part in the meeting included Chief Ministers of Kerala,
Telangana and Punjab, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, and leaders of
various political parties from seven states, who could be affected by the proposed
delimitation exercise to be undertaken by the BJP-led Government at the Centre
based on present population.
The GI tagged products, crafted by local women SHGs included Pattamadai Pai
(Pattamadai Mat), Toda Embroidery Shawl, famous Kancheepuram Silk Saree,
Ooty Varkey, Kanyakumari Cloves, Kovilpatti Kadalai Mittai (Peanut Candy), Erode
Turmeric and Kodaikanal Hill Garlic.
