Telangana govt sets up HYDRAA to protect Hyderabad: CM

Hyderabad, May 8 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Thursday the state government has established HYDRAA with a good idea to protect the historical city of Hyderabad.
Addressing after inaugurating HYDRAA police station at Buddha Bhavan here, Revanth said 1908 floods in the city created havoc and also upset the then Nizam Government. The Nizam rulers built Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar with the help of noted engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya to prevent floods.
Introduced HYDRAA aiming to rebuild the city, he said Bangaluru is facing drinking water crisis due to the lack of protection of water bodies and tanks. Mumbai and Chennai are also facing problems with frequent floods.
Declaring holidays to the schools and also the Parliament due to failure in controlling pollution in Delhi, he said metro cities are becoming uninhabitable cities.
Hyderabad will also witness such a dire situation if nature is not safeguarded and taking serious note of it, he said the government set up HYDRAA despite facing strong criticism.
The agency will not tolerate even if any influential person is found encroached on the lakes, he pointed out.
Worrying factor is when the colonies in the city submerge after receiving light rain.
HYDRAA is meant for not only demolitions but also takes the responsibility of streamlining traffic during the rains, solving water stagnation problems and restoring power supply, he informed.
Many tanks and lakes have been encroached upon in the city, the CM said that some people have encroached upon the roads and took up construction.
The main reason the government set up HYDRAA is to restore tanks and protect them, he said.
"The government will not back down even if some people oppose our decisions. Some forces are yelling against the restoration of water bodies and protection of nature saying the realty industry will collapse if the encroachments are removed, he said unable to digest, some leaders are preventing the government from moving forward and doing good for the society.
River Sabarmati in Gujarat, Ganga in UP and the Yamuna in Delhi have been restored but I am wondering why they are opposing the rejuvenation of River Musi, the CM pointed out.
BJP leaders claimed they are doing good in their ruling states. Is it wrong for Congress to do it in Telangana, he questioned.
"If the leaders have a grudge against me, show it to me. Stop creating hurdles in the works which are good for the people," he said and asked them to support for preserving the heritage and rebuild the city.
Suggesting the HYDRAA officials to show compassion towards the poor and move with kindness, he said and asked the official to bring it to the government's attention to make alternative arrangements for the poor.
Take strict action against the influential persons also if they are found guilty, he told the officials.
