TN: Two youths electrocuted while fishing illegally with live wire

Perambalur (Tamil Nadu), May 4 (UNI) Two youths died of electrocution while fishing illegally with a live wire in a jungle stream at Thondamandurai village under Veppanthattai block in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday night.
The bodies of Ranjith Kumar (24) and Dinesh (27) were found this morning near Kallar, a jungle stream, where they had gone for fishing, police said on Sunday.
A preliminary probe has revealed that the two youths were accidentally electrocuted while they were trying to catch fish by immersing live electric wire in the stagnant water.
The wire was illegally connected to a nearby electric pole.
Police seized electrical wires from the spot.
The bodies were removed to the government hospital for post-mortem.
Police have registered a case, and a detailed probe is underway.
In rural areas, some people opt for an easier way to catch fish, either through dynamite fishing or by dipping live electric wires in the water, instead of using nets and hooks. The dynamite and electric fishing practices were banned, police said.
