Tripura: 52-yr-old man convicted of molesting two minors in Covid Care Centre

Agartala, June 20 (UNI) A local court in Tripura’s Unakoti district awarded a 52-year-old man three years of imprisonment for molesting two minor girls at a Covid Care Centre in Kumarghat in 2020.
Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, a large number of infected patients were shifted to Kumarghat Care Centre, where the convicted person identified as Jhantu Deb, a sanitation worker at the Covid centre, molested the minor patients on September 2, 2020.
The complainant said that the convict touched and groped two minors inappropriately. When they tried to resist, he told them that it was part of the protocol. When the girl realised that the sanitation worker lied to her, a complaint was registered with the in-charge doctor of the centre.
Two days later, both the girls filed a written complaint against Jhantu Deb at the Kumarghat Police Station and arrested the accused, Jhantu Deb. The investigating officer filed the charge sheet with the court on November 30, 2020, and the trial began.
Court testified as many as 16 witnesses against the accused and finally pronounced the verdict, sentencing Jhantu Deb to three years in jail and imposing a fine of Rs 3,000, with an additional three months of imprisonment in case of non-payment.
