Tripura CM distributes scooties to 140 meritorious  girl students in Agartala

Agartala, March 14 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha here on Friday distributed scooties to 140 meritorious girl students who had passed higher secondary exam from Tripura Board of Secondary Education and Central Board of Secondary Education last year and got admitted to government general degree colleges in the state.

After Dr Saha became the CM for the second term in 2023, he had launched Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmonirbhor Yojana (MKAY) for the girls who attained 18 years to encourage them in higher education and develop their confidence.

The girls who secured over 80 percent of marks in board exams and whose annual family income is not more than Rs 8 Lakh have been considered in the scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Saha reiterated that the state government has launched several projects and schemes for girls to encourage them in study and support their self-reliance in professional life.

Besides the administrative action plan, extracurricular activities based on their interests have been given priority in higher studies.

“Under the central government scheme, we have distributed over 1.5 lakh bicycles among the female students of Class IX, and every year, new students are added to the list. Similarly, we have started distributing scooty among the eligible girl students of undergraduate level to boost their confidence and mobility,” the CM said.

He pointed out that Tripura government has made free admission for girls in the colleges, support their academic activities and all modern facilities including technological support in the campus have been extended to encourage girls in higher studies, and added, “In last two years, gross enrollment ratio of girls increased manifold in the higher education.”

Aiming to make Tripura a hub of education, a large number of private universities and colleges, including international Buddhist University, National Law College, and Indian Institute of Information Technology have been established in the state in five years. Several other higher education, technical education, and professional courses are waiting for the administrative approval to start functioning, Dr Saha added.
