Two officials of Food and Civil Supplies Department awarded three years' sentence for pilferage

Kaithal, Apr 3 (UNI) A Kaithal court today overturned the decision of a lower court in the case pertaining to causing loss to the government worth lakhs of rupees and sentenced the then Inspector and Sub Inspector of the Food and Supplies Department to three years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
An additional punishment of three months will be borne for not paying the fine. Both have deposited the amount of fine. Both were acquitted in 2017 by the court of the then Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Amardeep Singh in this case.
As per information, a case was filed in the police station Kalayat on the complaint of DFSO KK Bishnoi. In the appeal, Deputy District attorney JB Goyal argued on behalf of the state.
Goyal said that according to the complainant, on December 12, 2011, the stock of wheat stored at Kalayat Center was found to be lesser. This led to a loss of Rs 84,45,034 to the department. Total 5,776 kattas of the total wheat was found short for which Gaje Singh, Inspector Food and Supplies Department, Chetan Swaroop, Sub -Inspector Food and Supplies Department, Manoj Kumar, Labor Contractor PR Center Kalayat, Ravindra Kumar, BCPA Kalayat Mandi, and Chowkidar were held.
The lower court acquitted Gaje Singh and Chetan Swaroop in this case. An appeal was filed against this in the Sessions Court. Although an FIR was also registered against Inspector and Sub Inspector in this case against Manoj Kumar Ravindra and a watchman, but the police presented only the challan of Inspector Gaje Singh and Sub Inspector Chetan Swaroop in the court.
The court of ADJ Amit Garg changed the decision of the lower court after hearing both sides and convicted the inspector and sub-inspector and sentenced them to three years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
The court sent a copy of the verdict to Chief Secretary Haryana, Director Food and Supplies Department, DC Kaithal and DFSC Kaithal for necessary action.
