Una Records Season’s Highest at 42°C on Sunday

Shimla, Apr 2 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh continues to sizzle under rising temperatures as Una recorded the season’s highest maximum temperature at 42 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
The mercury jumped by two degrees compared to the previous day, marking a sharp rise in the foothills. The soaring temperatures are an indication of developing heatwave conditions across the state, even as the sky remained partly cloudy.
Other regions too witnessed a significant increase. Sundernagar recorded a maximum of 36.8 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 34.5 degrees, and Dharamshala 33 degrees. In Sirmour district, Paonta Sahib remained among the hotter spots with temperatures touching close to 40 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Shimla, the state capital, experienced a maximum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, which was 4.8 degrees above the normal for this time of the year.
Tourist destinations like Manali and Dharamshala, which typically offer respite from the summer heat, also saw warmer conditions. Manali registered a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius, while Dharamshala touched 33 degrees. Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur was relatively cooler at 20.2 degrees, and Keylong remained the coldest at 15.5degrees Celsius.
Meteorological officials attributed the surge in temperatures to recent rainfall and snowfall, which created humid conditions and contributed to the day’s heating. The average maximum temperatures across the state were reported to be above normal, although no largechange was observed during the last 24 hours.
Despite the heat, tourist footfall in popular destinations like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamshala remained strong over the weekend, as visitors flocked to the hills seeking some relief. However, with heatwave-like conditions brewing, authorities have advised precautions, especially in lower and mid-hill regions.UNI MLSSP
