UP govt to ensure safety of 1.1L girl students in 746 KGBVs

Lucknow, Apr 23 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has taken an unprecedented step to ensure the safety and academic excellence of nearly 1.10 lakh girl students studying in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) across the state, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that under an ambitious plan worth Rs 161 crore, each school is being fortified with an 8-foot-high, 9-inch-thick fortress-style boundary wall, topped with 1,01,906 meters of barbed wire and equipped with 7,230 high-quality CCTV cameras for round the clock surveillance.
Sources said that the modern security system, operated from a centralised control room in Lucknow, will closely monitor everything from mid-day meals to classroom learning. "The aim is to ensure zero negligence and complete accountability among teachers and officials," they said.
Sources said that the 'fortress-like' protective shield being created by the Yogi government will help girls grow and pursue their dreams without fear. "The KGBV girls will gain confidence in a secure environment. Whether it is studies or sports, every girl will feel completely safe," they said.
Sources said that the boundary walls are being built with military-grade strength. "Measuring 8 feet high and 9 inches thick, these walls will be topped with a total of 1,01,906 meters of running barbed wire, at a cost of Rs 121 crore. This fortress-like structure, developed under the government's guidance, will eliminate any external interference, making the residential campuses fully secure," they said.
Sources said that Rs 40 crore is being spent on installing 7,230 high-resolution CCTV cameras across the state. "Each school will have 15 cameras strategically placed at entry gates, the main boundary, offices, dining halls, kitchens and playgrounds. The live feed from these cameras will be monitored from a special control room in Lucknow, modelled after the UP Board Examination Monitoring Centre. Staff stationed here will monitor classroom teaching, meal preparation and distribution, cleanliness and every corner of the school premises in real-time," they said.
Sources said that the surveillance system will not only increase the accountability of teachers and kitchen staff but will also eliminate any chances of false reporting or negligence during official inspections. "Independent audits and real-time recordings will ensure a quarterly review of both safety and academic quality standards," they said.
Sources said that the government aims to fully implement this security project within the current financial year. "Work has already begun in a phased manner across both rural and urban districts of UP," they said.
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said, "Our top priority is that every girl feels fearless, safe, and empowered. Through this ‘fortress-like’ protective shield, we have not only strengthened the boundary walls of KGBVs but have also safeguarded the confidence and educational opportunities of these daughters. With round the clock surveillance from the Lucknow control room, we will ensure complete transparency, setting new standards in our education system."
