UP signs MoU with Australia's smart energy to boost renewable energy sector

Lucknow, Apr 22 (UNI) In a significant move towards fostering employment in the renewable energy sector, the Uttar Pradesh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Smart Energy Council of Australia and the Hinduja Group.
This collaboration marks a pivotal step under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aiming to transform UP into a hub for renewable energy investment and skilled workforce development.
The MoU was signed by Chief Secretary of UP, Manoj Kumar Singh, who emphasised the importance of developing skilled manpower to meet the state's ambitious target of achieving 22,000 MW solar capacity. He highlighted the need for a large, skilled task force to drive this initiative forward.
The Smart Energy Council, a leading organisation in Australia, is dedicated to advancing smart energy technology and services. It aims to support India's renewable energy goals by introducing cutting-edge solutions and facilitating investment opportunities between Australia and India.
The Hinduja Group, through its subsidiary Hinduja Renewables, is committed to supporting India's leadership in sustainability and self-reliance.
Senior Advisor at Hinduja Group Dr Sunil K Chadda and CEO of the Smart Energy Council John Grimes also expressed their commitment to support India's clean energy transition and build long-term partnerships.
This partnership will focus on building a future renewable workforce through skills and training, commercialising advanced solar technologies and expanding solar supply chains. It will also explore market opportunities for green hydrogen and energy storage technologies, promoting sustainable development and innovation in the energy sector.
The MoU outlines a collaborative framework between the parties to develop and deliver solar skill development programs and training modules, facilitate technology transfer and commercialisation of advanced renewable technologies, build robust solar and green hydrogen value chains and support bilateral investment and student exchange initiatives between India and Australia.
The agreement, effective from 2025 to 2027, represents a shared commitment to enhancing renewable energy cooperation between Australia and India. This partnership is expected to accelerate the transformation of UP into a renewable energy hub and contribute significantly to India's goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
