UP youth to become skilled with employment through GCC

Lucknow, May 14 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government's Global Capability Centers (GCC) Policy 2025 is poised to usher in transformative changes in youth employment and skill development across the state, sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that aimed at generating over two lakh new jobs, the policy also promises targeted incentives for internships, skill-building, payroll subsidies and research and innovation.
"By encouraging companies to establish GCCs not only in Noida/NCR but also in tier-2 cities like Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj, the policy is expected to spur inclusive economic growth across both urban and rural regions," they said.
Sources said that special emphasis has been placed on internships and skill development under the GCC policy to equip the youth with industry-relevant capabilities.
"A subsidy covering up to 50 percent of the internship cost, capped at Rs 5,000 per student per month, will be provided for internships lasting at least two months. This benefit will remain available for three years and can be availed for up to 50 interns per year," they said.
Sources said under the skill development subsidy, companies will receive up to Rs 50,000 per employee, covering 50 per cent of the training or course fee. "This benefit can be availed for a maximum of 500 employees, up to Rs 50 lakh annually, over a period of three years. Together, these measures aim to create a skilled and employment-ready workforce in UP," they said.
Sources said that under the payroll subsidy, employees who are residents of UP will be eligible for a reimbursement of up to Rs 1.8 lakh per year, while other employees will receive up to Rs 1.2 lakh. "This subsidy will be provided for three years, with an annual cap of Rs 20 crore," they said.
Sources said that a Freshers Recruitment Subsidy of Rs 20,000 will be offered for each fresher hired from colleges and institutions within UP, subject to the recruitment of at least 30 such candidates annually. "This scheme will be applicable for a duration of five years," they said.
Sources said that to promote inclusive hiring, the policy offers 100 percent reimbursement of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions for women, SC/ST, transgender and Divyangjan employees.
"This benefit is available for three years, up to Rs 1 crore annually, encouraging diversity and inclusive employment practices," they said.
Sources said that the GCC policy also provides a grant of up to Rs 10 crore to establish a Centre of Excellence, aimed at fostering research and development (R&D).
"Startups will receive support for idea development, patent and academic collaborations as aligned with the UP Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy (IIEPP) 2022. The policy encourages innovation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and fintech," they said.
Sources said that beyond Noida and the NCR region, special incentives are being extended to companies setting up GCCs in tier-2 cities like Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj.
