Urdu journalists honoured at TUWJF awards ceremony in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 10 (UNI) The Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation (TUWJF) hosted a grand felicitation ceremony on Saturday at the Press Club, Basheer Bagh, to honour outstanding Urdu journalists for their contributions to journalism, public awareness, and cultural discourse.
During the event, several prestigious awards were presented to recognise excellence in Urdu journalism.
The Faiz Mohammed Asghar Award was given to Iftekhar Ali Wajid of Etemaad Daily and Yasirullah Shakeel of 4TV. The Tabassum Fareedi Award was conferred on Shahid Ahmed Tawakkal of Adilabad and Waheed Gulshan.
The Habib Ali Al-Jilani Award went to senior journalist Naeem Wajahat of Siasat Daily and Mohammed Asad from Karimnagar.
Mohammed Aleemuddin of Press Photo Service received the M.A. Rahim Press Photographer Award, and a Special Overseas Journalist Award was presented to veteran journalist K.N. Wasif for his distinguished service in the non-resident Indian media.
A Lifetime Achievement Award was posthumously conferred on the late Habeeb Ali Al Jeelani in recognition of his decades-long service to Urdu journalism. INN Chairman Sameer Waliullah presented the award, with heartfelt tributes from Federation members and fellow journalists.
AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, who attended as the Chief Guest, congratulated the award recipients and lauded the Federation’s efforts in recognising the work of Urdu journalists.
Emphasising Urdu's cultural and national importance, he criticised Pakistan’s selective use of religion and its neglect of Urdu as an official language, contrasting it with India’s constitutional recognition of the language.
Owaisi also strongly condemned Pakistan’s use of religion to justify terrorism, calling it a "habitual liar" misusing religious texts. Referring to the same day’s terror attack in Poonch, he expressed grief over the deaths of Andhra Pradesh soldier Murali Naik and a cleric, while praising the Indian Army’s strong response through operations like Operation Sindoor.
He reaffirmed Indian Muslims’ loyalty to the nation and their willingness to stand by the armed forces.
Calling for greater political unity, Owaisi urged the BJP and Congress to set aside public disputes and focus on national interests, stressing the need for Hindu-Muslim harmony in today’s climate.
Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir, who also addressed the gathering, applauded the role of Urdu journalists and praised Owaisi’s bold representation of India’s position in recent national security discussions.
He stated that Indian Muslims and scholars across the country have consistently condemned terrorism, and that honouring honest journalism strengthens democracy and communal unity.
The event was presided over by TUWJF President M.A. Majid, who welcomed the guests and honoured the awardees. General Secretary Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin anchored the programme, and Ayesha Batool delivered the vote of thanks.
Notable attendees included Srinivas Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana Press Academy and President of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU); senior journalist Farooq Argali from Delhi; former Minorities Commission Chairman Mohammed Qamruddin; TUWJF President Khwaja Warahat Ali; and structural engineer Basharat Ali. Several women journalists, including Sajida Sana, were also present and actively participated in the proceedings.
