Lucknow, May 14 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the Cabinet’s decision to set up a semiconductor unit in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh as a "historic stride" toward realising the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
Taking to X, the CM said, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the approval for setting up a semiconductor unit in Greater Noida marks a historic step toward a self-reliant India. With an investment of Rs 3,700 crore, the unit will produce display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles and digital devices. India is advancing rapidly toward global leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a powerhouse in high-end electronics and semiconductor production. Thank you, Prime Minister."
The step marks a major milestone in making the state a 1 trillion dollar economy. I
The semi conductor project in Greater Noida was approved in a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
It is the sixth unit under the Semiconductor Mission in the country. Under the project, the unit will be set up near Jewar Airport in Greater Noida with an investment of Rs 3,700 crore by Vama Sundari Investment, a joint venture of two giant technology companies HCL and Foxconn.
The plant will manufacture advanced display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, personal computers, and other electronics. With a monthly production capacity of 20,000 wafers and 36 million units annually, the facility is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand across multiple industries.
It may be noted that just a day earlier, Japan's leading semiconductor firm, Renesas Electronics Corporation, launched its advanced chip design centre in Noida. The facility will focus on designing the world’s most sophisticated 3-nanometer chips, a technology currently pursued by only a handful of companies and nations.
