‘Khelo Telangana’ initiative launched to promote sports and fitness

Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) The Telangana Department of Sports and Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) on Tuesday launched the ‘Khelo Telangana’ initiative to promote sports, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle across the State.
Sports and Youth Services Minister Vakiti Srihari unveiled the official poster of the programme at the State Secretariat and said the initiative aimed to encourage people of all age groups to undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.
As part of the programme, the ‘Khelo Telangana Bandhan’ campaign will encourage citizens to make walking, jogging, running, yoga and other fitness activities part of their daily routine.
A ‘9 9 9 Fitness Challenge’ will also be organised, under which participants have to upload a 27-second video of their fitness activity on social media, tag nine friends and encourage them to nominate nine more participants.
The Department will organise leagues and competitions in disciplines including wrestling, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, judo, basketball, athletics, football, cycling and yoga. Opportunities will be provided from the school level to all age groups to encourage participation, identify talent and nurture future sporting champions.
Sports Advisor A.P. Jitender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Sports Authority of Telangana Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Dr A. Sonibala Devi, Telangana Olympic Association Secretary Malla Reddy and other officials attended the programme.

Sri Lanka name squad for men's event at Asian Games

Colombo, Sep 22 (UNI) Sri Lanka Cricket's Selection Committee on Tuesday named a 15-member men's squad for the Asian Games 2026, with Sahan Arachchige appointed captain and Niroshan Dickwella continuing as wicketkeeper.
The squad will leave for Japan on September 24, ahead of the 10-team T20I competition running from September 24 to October 3, with matches held at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture.

Miller aims to chart World Cup glory by keeping it simple
