‘Me and Dolly, we are eternal’: Miley Cyrus remembers late godmother Dolly Parton

Los Angeles, Oct 17 (UNI) “Bass Persuades” singer Miley Cyrus paid a deeply emotional tribute to her late godmother, country music icon Dolly Parton, with a moving performance of Jolene at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday.
Fighting back tears, the 33-year-old singer recalled a cherished memory of watching Parton perform at the iconic venue, telling the audience that she feels her godmother’s presence more than ever. Reflecting on their lifelong bond, Cyrus said that nothing could ever separate them, adding that their connection would endure forever.
According to Miley, Parton made an appearance with the Hannah Montana song “The Best of Both Worlds” and then announced to the crowd that the “Bass Persuades” singer was watching the show with them!
“Like so many things Dolly did, that I didn’t understand it at the time, sitting here with you all right now, feeling her all around me, knowing that she’s right here beside me everyday, all the time, more than she could be when she was here. I feel her, now more than ever,” Miley told the audience.
She added, “Knowing that I get to share this story with you all, it makes that night very worth it. This memory is gold to me.”
While speaking about Dolly, she became emotional and said that her godmother has written, produced and performed some of the greatest music that the industry have today and nothing in the real life will be able to tear them apart.
“Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could tear us apart. And I’m gonna see her again. I can’t wait because I miss her. Some of the greated music that we have today was written, produced and performed by my aunt Dolly,” she concluded.
According to PEOPLE, Miley Cyrus knew Dolly Parton since birth, as the “Jolene” singer was close with her father and singer Billy Ray Cyrus for years after the two bonded on tour together in the 1990s.
Eventually, the pair grew closer that Billy Ray, 65, and his ex-wife Tish Cyrus asked Parton to be Miley’s godmother after she was born in 1992.
As the years went by, the country singer and Miley collaborated on projects, and the “Walk of Fame” performer lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Dolly”.
Dolly Parton also appeared in Miley’s sitcom Hannah Montana in the three episodes from 2006 to 2010, where she portrayed her recurring fairy godmother.
Moreover, the duo joined forces on Parton’s final album “Rockstar” in 2023 for a new version of Miley’s 2013 hit “Wrecking Ball”.
In a 2017 Cosmopolitan interview, the “Bass Persuades” singer spoke about the best part about having Parton in her life, which was “watching the way she treats people with love and respect,” People reported.
Earlier, Dolly and Miley collaborated in January for a charity single reimagining of Parton’s 1977 hit “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” with singers Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah and Reba McEntire.
Miley also took to Instagram where she shared an emotional tribute dedicated to her “Aunt Dolly” after Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80.
The caption said, “The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between out hearts.”
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis,” she continued.
Concluding her statement, Miley said she will always love Parton and want to make her proud.
