'No Mercy for Food Adulterators'

Panchkula, Sep 27 (UNI) Food vendors and sweet shop owners across Haryana's Panchkula have been warned that any compromise on food quality or adulteration during the festive rush will be met with strict action against the guilty.
Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma on Saturday threw down the gauntlet to food vendors and sweet shop owners across the district, declaring that any compromise on food quality or adulteration during the festive rush will be met with ruthless administrative action. "If anyone is found playing with the health of citizens, there will be zero tolerance," Sharma said, issuing a stern pre-festival advisory ahead of a sweeping inspection drive.
With the holiday season triggering a massive surge in demand for sweets, dairy-based delicacies, and packaged food items, the district administration has moved to lock down on hygiene standards and quality control. Sharma made it clear that the administration is committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to clean, safe, and unadulterated food, and that violators will not be let off with mere warnings.
In a decisive step, the administration has constituted multiple flying squads of officials who will conduct surprise raids and random inspections across branded sweet outlets, restaurants, local mithai shops, and other food establishments. These teams will collect samples of sweets, milk products, dry fruits, chocolates, and other high-demand consumables for laboratory testing to detect adulteration or substandard quality.
Simultaneously, Food Safety Officers have been directed to lift samples from various vendors and dispatch them to labs for rigorous analysis.
But Sharma's directive goes beyond punitive action. Shopkeepers are being pulled up for lax hygiene protocols and instructed to enforce strict cleanliness standards on their premises. The DC has ordered that sweets and food items be prepared only in response to immediate demand and must not be stockpiled for extended periods, a practice that often leads to spoilage and health hazards during the festive spike.
In a pointed instruction that signals the administration's attention to detail, Sharma mandated that all staff members involved in food preparation and handling must compulsorily wear gloves and caps. He also directed that manufacturing dates and expiry dates must be clearly displayed on all sweets and packaged food items, leaving no room for ambiguity or deception.
The crackdown covers a wide spectrum of consumables that see heavy rotation during festivals, including milk, mawa, traditional sweets, dry fruits, chocolates, and branded confectionery.
Sharma also issued a direct appeal to consumers, urging them to exercise vigilance while purchasing sweets and food items. He asked citizens to meticulously check manufacturing and expiry dates, assess quality, and verify hygiene standards before buying, ensuring they do not fall prey to adulterated or stale products.
