4 TN fishers hurt in mid sea attack

Chennai,Apr 17 (UNI) Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu in Kodiyakarai in
Nagapattinam district were injured after they were allegedly attacked by
a three-member unidentified gang while they were fishing in the mid sea
late on Wednesday night.
They were fishing about 13 nautical miles southeast of Kodiyakarai in
a fibre boat, when the gang, who came in a boat, intercepted them and
attacked them, reports received here said.
The injured fishermen, who returned to the Kodiyakari shore, said the
assailants also took away their gadgets, including GPS devices, walkie
talkie sets, cell phones, fishing gears and the fish catch, and fled the
scene.
It was not known who were behind the attack, though initial reports
suggested that they could either be Sri Lankan fishermen or sea pirates.
The injured fishermen, who had ventured into the sea from Kodiyakarai,
were first admitted to a local hospital for administering first aid and were
later shifted to the Government Hospital in Vedaranyam for further
