43rd ICG Commanders’ meet to focus on Maritime security, modernisation

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) The 43rd Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders’ Conference will commence in New Delhi on Thursday, bringing together the Service’s senior leadership for a three-day review of maritime security challenges, operational preparedness and capability enhancement.
The conference will be held at Coast Guard Headquarters from September 17 to 19. Minister of State for defence Sanjay Seth will address senior ICG commanders on the opening day, with his interaction expected to underline the government’s focus on strengthening the Coast Guard’s role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests and national security.
The apex annual professional forum of the ICG will deliberate on a range of strategic, operational and administrative priorities. Discussions will include current and emerging maritime security challenges, operational readiness and resource deployment, capability enhancement and force modernisation, besides organisational priorities aligned with the national maritime strategy.
The commanders are also expected to review initiatives aimed at strengthening indigenisation and domestic capability development under the Make in India programme, in line with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat push.
The three-day conference comes amid an expanding focus on maritime security and the need to maintain operational preparedness across India’s vast maritime domain. The deliberations are expected to provide a platform for senior commanders to assess existing capabilities and chart priorities for building a modern and future-ready Coast Guard.
The conference is also aimed at aligning the Service’s operational and organisational priorities with evolving maritime security requirements and the country’s broader national maritime strategy.UNI PWS AAB

CJP protest: SC declines to reconstitute Justice Reddy-led panel probing July violence

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) The Supreme Court has declined to reconstitute the five-member High-Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC) headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice R. Subhash Reddy, which was set up on August 18, 2026, to probe allegations of police excesses during the July 20 crackdown on student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and elsewhere in the country. The protesters, mobilised by the Cockroach Janata Party, were demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged question-paper leaks in NEET and other examinations.
