65-foot Ravana effigy goes up in flames at Nashik’s historic Ramleela Ground

Nashik, Oct 20 (UNI) A 65-foot-tall effigy of Ravana went up in flames at the historic Ramleela Ground in Gandhinagar, Nashik, as part of the Dussehra celebrations.
The event marks the 71st year of the long-standing tradition and drew thousands of spectators.
According to the Ramleela Committee, this year’s Ravana effigy is the tallest ever erected in Nashik.
Committee members and volunteers worked round the clock to complete the effigy, install it at the venue and make arrangements for the various activities associated with the festival.
The annual Ravana Dahan ceremony at Gandhinagar has been a major religious and cultural attraction for the past 71 years. Over time, the celebration has grown in scale, attracting large numbers of people from Nashik city and surrounding areas.
Along with the Ravana Dahan ceremony, various episodes from the Ramayana were presented at the Ramleela Ground.
Artists dressed in traditional costumes portrayed characters from the epic and enacted scenes depicting the story of Lord Shri Ram and Ravana.
In view of the large turnout this year, the organisers made arrangements to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Apart from Gandhinagar, Ravana Dahan ceremonies were organised at several other locations across Nashik as part of the Dussehra celebrations.
At Nashik Road, the ceremony was organised by the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Mitra Mandal.
A grand Ravana Dahan event was also held along the banks of the Godavari River in Panchavati. Another celebration was held in the Shankarnagar area on Gangapur Road.
The Ravana Dahan ceremony at Gandhinagar’s Ramleela Ground was held at 8:30 pm on Dussehra.
