Aadhaar mandatory for 63 types of property document registrations in Maharashtra from October 1

Mumbai, Oct 1 (UNI) Aadhaar identification will now be mandatory for registration of property-related documents in Maharashtra, with no document registration being permitted without a valid identity proof. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the decision has been implemented from October 1 to curb fraud in property transactions and prevent the use of fake parties and witnesses.
Speaking to the media, Bawankule said the decision was taken following directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The measure is aimed at preventing fraudulent property transactions carried out by producing fictitious parties or witnesses.
According to the Revenue Department, Aadhaar identification has been made compulsory for 63 categories of document registrations, including sale, purchase, gift, mortgage and partition of property. A government gazette notification has also been issued in this regard.
Bawankule also spoke about the Surya project in Palghar, where land and houses are being acquired for the project. He said several villages, including Hanuman Nagar, had been rehabilitated in 1979, but proper land records were not available, creating difficulties in determining who should receive compensation for land acquisition.
The government has now amended the relevant provisions and will prepare property cards and seven-twelve land records for the affected residents. Once the records are prepared, compensation for land acquisition will be disbursed and eligible residents will receive their plots, he said.
Bawankule said the issue relating to the Surya project had remained unresolved for several years, but the state Cabinet took a decision on it at its meeting on Wednesday.
He also said the government had decided to provide land free of cost for a housing project for needy people in Nagpur district. The initiative follows a suggestion by union Minister Nitin Gadkari to develop a “Smart Village” near an existing project.
According to Bawankule, the initiative will benefit people who do not have houses, including members of the Phase Pardhi community. The government has decided to make land available free of cost so that eligible families can be provided with housing.
