ACB seizes Rs 2.40 lakh unaccounted cash from HMWS&SB Joint Director

Hyderabad, Oct 25 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized Rs 2.40 lakh in unaccounted cash from A Srinivas, Joint Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), Khairatabad, during a surprise check on Raj Bhavan Road on Saturday evening.
According to the ACB statement on Sunday, its City Range-II team acted on an anonymous tip-off that a senior HMWS&SB official was allegedly carrying cash collected illegally from his office while proceeding to his residence.
At around 1900 hours on October 24, the ACB officials intercepted a Maruti Swift car bearing registration number TS08 GQ 3699 opposite Metro Residency Apartments on Raj Bhavan Road. The vehicle was found to belong to Srinivas.
During the check, the officials found Rs 2.40 lakh in unaccounted cash in his possession inside the car. When questioned about carrying the cash while returning from the office, Srinivas allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and gave inconsistent statements, the ACB said.
The cash was seized under a panchanama for further verification of the alleged corruption angle and necessary action. The ACB also said the matter would be brought to the notice of the Income Tax Department.
