Agartala ready to host 5th edition of Durga Puja carnival

Agartala, Oct 18 (UNI)Tripura will host the fifth edition of the Mayer Gomon (Durga Puja carnival) on October 23 to mark the culmination of this year’s Durga Puja festivities, with foreign diplomats from several countries expected to attend, officials said here on Sunday.
Reports indicate that diplomats from the United States, Russia, and Bangladesh plan to attend, enhancing the international aspect of this cultural event. The Mayer Gomon Carnival has become a key cultural highlight in Agartala, uniting Durga Puja organizers from the city and nearby areas in honouring Goddess Durga.
The event allows puja committees to showcase their creativity, intricate decorations, and cultural heritage before the end of the festive season. Since 2024, the area in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls' HS School has served as the main venue for the carnival.
Many notable Durga Puja committees have signed up for this year's event. Their involvement will likely highlight the variety of artistic ideas, technical skills, and community engagement that define Durga Puja celebrations in Agartala.
The Information and Cultural Affairs Department, together with the Agartala Municipal Corporation, is managing the preparations for the event. Police are also involved to ensure safety and handle the anticipated crowd. The efforts across departments aim to enable the carnival's successful execution and create a safe atmosphere for attendees, guests, and participating organizations.
The carnival embodies the shared spirit of Agartala's Durga Puja traditions, strengthening community connections through cultural expression and a joint farewell to the Goddess. The involvement of many puja committees aims to position the event as an important stage for highlighting the city's unique festive practices.
