AI, robotics to drive Karnataka-Japan cooperation: Japan Consulate General

Bengaluru, Nov 2 (UNI) Karnataka's presence of more than 200 Japanese companies and over 500 Japanese establishments has created a strong foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation into advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, robotics and emerging technologies, Consul General of Japan Hiroshi Nawata said on Monday.
Addressing the fourth Indo-Japanese Business Summit organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) here, Nawata said Karnataka was uniquely positioned to take India-Japan economic relations beyond conventional trade and investment towards technology development, innovation and globally competitive industrial capabilities.
He said the growing Japanese business presence reflected confidence in Karnataka's industrial capabilities, skilled workforce, technology ecosystem and business environment.
"Bengaluru's strengths in AI, IT, deep technology and research complement Japan's global leadership in engineering, research, manufacturing, robotics and industrial excellence," Nawata said.
Emphasising the potential of combining the strengths of both economies, he said the partnership should focus not merely on increasing trade but also on developing new technologies, generating employment and building global business capabilities.
India and Japan shared a relationship founded on trust, mutual support and technological cooperation, Nawata said, adding that bilateral engagement had expanded into advanced manufacturing, innovation, research and human resource development.
He credited BCIC with playing an important role in translating this potential into concrete business engagement through institutional initiatives.
A significant milestone was the establishment of the BCIC Japan Desk in Tokyo in 2022, making it the first Indian industry chamber to establish a dedicated office in the Japanese capital. The initiative had strengthened direct connections between businesses in Karnataka and their Japanese counterparts, he said.
Nawata also highlighted BCIC's delegation visit to Osaka during the World Expo 2025 and the signing of an MoU between the chamber and the city of Osaka.
Acknowledging BCIC's support to the Karnataka government during its engagements with Japan, he described the chamber as an important bridge connecting businesses, governments, institutions and startups across borders.
As BCIC marked its golden jubilee this year, Nawata expressed confidence that its five-decade legacy would help advance the bilateral partnership.
He called for Karnataka and Japan to emerge not merely as trading partners but as long-term collaborators in innovation, industrial development and shared prosperity.
He expressed hope that the summit would generate new ideas, stronger partnerships and concrete outcomes to take India-Japan cooperation to greater heights.
