AIIMS-Bhubaneswar secures Rs 42 crore for over 200 research projects

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 (UNI) AIIMS Bhubaneswar secured Rs 32.2 crore in extramural research grants through 187 projects in 2025–26, with another Rs 10 crore-plus sanctioned through 29 projects in the current financial year, underscoring its growing research capabilities and collaborations.
The institute is currently supported by 24 international, national and regional funding agencies, Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas said at its fourth Annual Research Day, themed "Innovate, Translate, Heal: Advancing Biomedical Frontiers".
He said the institute was focusing on translating biomedical research into advanced diagnostics and evidence-based patient care, particularly in cancer, infectious diseases, public health, microbiome and mental health.
Facilities such as the Infectious Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, Advanced Mycology Diagnostic and Research Laboratory, Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMOnDS) and Brain Bank are aimed at making specialised diagnostic and treatment services accessible to patients from Odisha and neighbouring States, reducing the need to travel to distant cities.
Chief guest Prof Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, called for interdisciplinary research and stronger collaboration between IITs and AIIMS. AIIMS Kalyani Executive Director Dr Arvind Sinha stressed the need for India-specific health research data, while senior technocrat Charudutta Panigrahi highlighted the role of medical research in nation-building.
The event featured research poster presentations by 140 participants and a panel discussion on challenges and opportunities in medical research. The Annual Research Report 2025–26 was released, and AIIMS Bhubaneswar Research Talks was digitally launched. Awards recognising research, publication and poster excellence were also presented.
