Akhilesh Yadav calls BJP rule an ‘emergency’ for PDA

Lucknow, Oct 1 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday alleged that people in the country and in Uttar Pradesh were going through a “BJP Emergency”, claiming that the period of alleged oppression of the PDA - backward classes, Dalits and minorities- could be described as an Emergency.
" As a period of oppression against the PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) class will truly be called an Emergency,"he said while addressing a press conference in Lucknow and accused the BJP government of failing to address unemployment and corruption.
He said the situation reminded him of the Emergency era and alleged that people have been facing restrictions for raising issues concerning governance and public services.
Yadav cited an alleged incident in Gorakhpur involving waterlogging, claiming that a youth who recorded and shared visuals of alleged corruption was booked under the Goonda Act. He alleged that action is being taken even against people for photographing or recording waterlogging in the city, despite the state having been under a single-party government for several years.
The SP chief also questioned the installation of large billboards in Delhi during Wednesday’s INDIA bloc meeting. He asked who had put up the billboards targeting opposition leaders and said the Election Commission could not have installed them.
Yadav further alleged that the police were functioning as “BJP workers” and referred to what he described as adverse observations by the Supreme Court regarding the Uttar Pradesh Police. He said, “This crisis can only be avoided when the BJP is removed. If the BJP is removed, the crisis will be resolved automatically.”
On the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Yadav made a bold claim that the BJP would lose the election regardless of whether it fields nine or 10 candidates. He said that those willing to join forces to defeat the BJP were welcome.
He said, "Whether the BJP fields nine or ten candidates, it is going to lose this election. Even if the BJP tries to manage things with a microscope, its defeat is certain. Anyone who wants to join forces to defeat the BJP is welcome."
Asked about the Samajwadi Party fielding an industrialist for the Rajya Sabha, Yadav said the party’s influence should also extend to the corporate sector. He said both government and corporate investment were necessary for the development of Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Yadav met and felicitated “Loktantrik Senanis” — those who participated in the movement against the Emergency — at the SP state headquarters. He recalled that former SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had introduced a pension scheme for Loktantrik Senanis and said the benefits would be enhanced if the SP returned to power in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav made major announcements for the Loktrantrik Senani which includes honorarium will be increased to Rs 51,000 per month, free medical and medicines along with free train and bus ride.
