Panchkula, Oct 1 (UNI) Haryana Police impounded 708 end-of-life vehicles in Gurugram during September as part of a special enforcement drive aimed at curbing vehicular pollution and enforcing restrictions on ageing vehicles, a police spokesman said here on Thursday.
The month-long drive, conducted by the Gurugram Traffic Police from September 1 to 30, targeted BS-III and older vehicles, as well as vehicles that fell under the prescribed end-of-life norms.
The spokesman said diesel vehicles more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles more than 15 years old are prohibited from being driven on roads under the applicable norms.
Traffic police teams carried out checks at different locations across Gurugram during the drive and verified vehicle documents and their validity.
“A total of 708 vehicles found violating the prescribed provisions were impounded during September, and action was taken in accordance with law,” the Haryana Police spokesman said.
Police have also been running awareness campaigns through the Suraksha Rath to sensitise vehicle owners and drivers about restrictions governing end-of-life vehicles.
