Akhilesh Yadav hits out at land acquisition in UP's Gorakhpur

Lucknow, June 28 (UNI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has slammed the Yogi Adityanath government over the alleged atrocities on land owners and shopkeepers in Gorakhpur by forcefully acquiring their land and not paying the compensation on market rates.
He said CM Adityanath had announced Metro Rail for Gorakhpur and Jhansi nine years back, but nothing has happened, he said.
"Today, 'gorakhdhandha' (deception) is going on in Gorakhpur. If the Gorakhpur people open their mouths, then there will be a custody corridor instead of the heritage corridor, as the government has planned," he quipped.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday along with leader of the opposition in the state assembly Mata Prasad Pandey, the SP chief was furious over the act of the BJP leaders and workers in Gorakhpur when a delegation of the Samajwadi Party went to meet the affected people of the land acquisition.
It was reported that the delegation, which was led by Mata Prasad Pandey, was stopped by BJP activists with bulldozers. They were not allowed to meet the victims and the shopkeepers, besides the police and administration were also supporting the BJP leaders, he said.
Pandey alleged that the BJP workers were "conspiring to kill them".
Akhilesh Yadav demanded that land compensation in Gorakhpur should not be given by mutual consent, but according to market rates.
"But the government is forcibly going for an agreement with traders and local people with the help of police," he said.
Targeting the CM, the SP president said that when it was a case of his own land, he took the most possible compensation and later got all appreciation for giving his land.
"The corrupt practices prevailing in UP in the name of corridor construction while acquiring land on low prices from the owners and later selling them off on higher rates by BJP leaders. Locals are being cheated. This was the reason why the BJP lost Lok Sabha seats in Ayodhya and Prayagraj. I can predict that similar things like Ayodhya will happen in Mathura and Gorakhpur during the elections when people will reject them totally, " he said.
Akhilesh Yadav threatened that if no action was not taken against the DM and SSP of Gorakhpur for their alleged administrative lapses, then action will be taken against them when the SP government is formed in 2027.
Replying to a question on BJP's opposition to secularism and socialism in the preamble to the Constitution, the SP chief said, "Those who are opposed to reservation are opposing socialism and secularism. At the time of its formation, the BJP had decided against socialism and secularism. Such people do politics by spreading hatred. They cannot speak directly against the Constitution, so they are opposing secularism and socialism."
