Alai Balai promotes social harmony beyond political differences: Telangana Governor

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (UNI) Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday said the Alai Balai programme symbolised social harmony and Telangana’s rich cultural heritage, bringing people together beyond political and ideological differences.
Addressing the ‘Datthanna Alai Balai’ programme organised by former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and his daughter Vijayalakshmi at Nampally Exhibition Grounds, the Governor appreciated their efforts in continuing the tradition initiated in 2005.
Calling for collective efforts to achieve a drug-free India by 2029, Shukla said drug abuse posed a serious threat to youth and could not be tackled by the police alone. Government agencies, educational institutions, social organisations and citizens must work together, he said, cautioning against the growing threat of synthetic drugs.
The Governor recalled administering an anti-drug pledge to around 15,000 students at LB Stadium and announced that a similar awareness programme would be held at Osmania University on October 28. He urged youth to respect cultural traditions and contribute to nation-building, stressing that social harmony and national integration were essential for the country's progress.
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, former Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, former Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, public representatives and political leaders attended the programme. Shukla and his wife, Janaki Shukla, were felicitated by Dattatreya, while achievers from various fields were also honoured.
