Ambala: Two Police Post in-charges suspended over FIR lapses at Minister Anil Vij’s public grievance hearing

Panchkula, Sep 17 (UNI) Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Thursday ordered the suspension of two police post in-charges in Ambala Cantonment after complaints of alleged failure to register FIRs and delays in acting on theft complaints came up during his public grievance hearing.
Vij was hearing complaints of residents of the Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantonment when he pulled up police officials over the alleged lapses and directed immediate action.
According to the complaints presented before the minister, a woman from Staff Road alleged that thieves forcibly entered her house on September 9, rendered her father unconscious by allegedly administering a stupefying substance and escaped with 20 tolas of gold and cash.
She said CCTV footage was available, but the FIR was allegedly not registered despite her complaint to the Topkhana police post. She further alleged that the case was registered only after she informed police that she was approaching Vij.
Taking serious note of the complaint, Vij questioned the police officials as to why action had not been taken despite the alleged availability of evidence and directed the suspension of the Topkhana police post in-charge.
In another theft case, a priest from Kacha Bazaar told Vij that the lock of his room at a temple had been broken and belongings stolen. He said he had submitted a complaint at the Housing Board police post on September 5, but no FIR had been registered and no effective action had followed. After questioning the police officials, Vij directed the suspension of the Housing Board police post in-charge.
Vij also ordered an inquiry against the Chaurmastpur sub-divisional officer after a farmer from Nadiyali village alleged that his tubewell electricity connection had been disconnected in 2025 and had not been restored despite his applying for reconnection.
The farmer said there were no outstanding electricity dues against him, yet nearly a year had passed without restoration of the connection, adversely affecting his farming. Vij directed the Superintending Engineer, Ambala, to conduct an inquiry into the matter. He also ordered an inquiry into a complaint concerning delay in removing a transformer at Rampur Sarsehri despite it allegedly not being in use.
A group from Mahesh Nagar approached Vij seeking an inquiry into the death of a married woman. The complainants alleged that a murder case had been registered even though, according to them, the death was a case of suicide.
Vij directed the constitution of an SIT for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Several complaints concerning old-age pensions also came before the minister. Complainants alleged that repeated visits to departmental offices had failed to resolve their problems. Vij telephoned the District Social Welfare Officer and reprimanded the official over the complaints, directing that the pending cases be resolved before next week.
Vij also took a firm position on outstanding electricity bills. During the hearing, a complainant sought additional time despite having electricity dues of around Rs 1 lakh. Vij told the complainant that electricity consumed had to be paid for and directed the officials present to ensure payment. He further directed the power department to undertake a statewide recovery drive against consumers whose outstanding electricity bills had remained unpaid beyond the prescribed billing cycle, according to the statement.
Vij also reprimanded the Mahesh Nagar police station in-charge over multiple complaints of theft from Ganesh Vihar and other colonies adjoining Tangri Dam Road.
Speaking to reporters, Vij said a complainant should not have to repeatedly visit government offices for resolution of the same grievance. He directed officials that once a complaint is received and forwarded to a department, it should be resolved at that level; if there is any difficulty, the complainant should be informed in writing.
On FIRs, Vij said it would not be tolerated if cases were not registered after an incident was reported. He directed police that an FIR should be registered first, followed by investigation and necessary action.
The minister also spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and urged beneficiaries of various government schemes to mark the occasion by lighting lamps at their homes.
