Amit Mishra returns to Delhi Capitals as spin bowling coach

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has joined Delhi Capitals as their spin bowling coach, becoming the latest addition to the franchise’s revamped coaching staff ahead of the next IPL season.
Mishra joins a backroom team that includes head coach Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Yuvraj Singh and fast bowling coach Chaminda Vaas. The appointments are part of a major overhaul of the franchise’s support staff.
The former India spinner brings extensive IPL experience, having played 162 matches across 16 seasons since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2008. He began his IPL career with Delhi, then known as Delhi Daredevils, and spent 10 seasons with the franchise.
Mishra last featured in the IPL in 2024 and has taken 174 wickets in the tournament, including a best haul of 5/17. He remains the only bowler to have claimed three hat-tricks in IPL history, achieving the feat for three different teams — Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
Interestingly, Mishra will now work alongside Yuvraj, who is among the two players to have taken two IPL hat-tricks. The former India all-rounder achieved the feat in 2009.
Mishra’s appointment could also benefit Delhi’s young spin options. Zeeshan Ansari, a left-arm wrist-spinner who joined the franchise in a trade deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad involving T Natarajan, stands to gain from working with the experienced leg-spinner. Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed could also benefit if Delhi retain them for the upcoming season.
