Amit Shah focused only on criticising Congress during Hyderabad visit: Ponnam Prabhakar

Hyderabad, Nov 2 (UNI) Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday criticised union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly confining his Hyderabad visit to attacking the Congress instead of addressing the promises made to Telangana during State bifurcation.
In a video statement, Ponnam questioned why Shah did not explain the Centre's commitments to Telangana and demanded an account of the funds contributed by the State and the assistance provided by the Centre.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Ponnam said the Congress was not opposed to removing ineligible voters but was concerned about the alleged deletion of genuine voters, particularly those belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities.
He challenged Shah to provide evidence on the number of foreign nationals identified and removed from electoral rolls and demanded a discussion in Parliament on the issue.
He also accused the BJP and RSS of distributing forms for voter deletion and questioned the Centre's silence on the issue. Referring to the BJP's allegations of corruption against the Congress government, he alleged that the Centre was favouring corporate groups such as Ambani and Adani.
Ponnam said the Congress government in Telangana was implementing its six guarantees and welfare programmes, including fine-quality rice, ration cards, 200 units of free electricity, free bus travel and recruitment to government jobs. He challenged the BJP's State leadership to an open debate on its promises and performance.
Accusing the BJP of indulging in political criticism instead of addressing national issues, he referred to the situation in Manipur, rising prices and other challenges facing the country. He also urged the Centre to extend assistance to Telangana to tackle drought conditions arising from the El Niño phenomenon.
Ponnam said the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, would continue its fight to protect democracy and voting rights, asserting that only eligible citizens should exercise their franchise.
