Analysts power India's data-driven build-up

Beckenham, Jun 15 (UNI) As India's intra-squad four-day game got underway in Beckenham, it wasn’t just the players fine-tuning their skills, behind the scenes, the performance analysts played a key role, setting up data capture systems to support targeted simulation drills for both batsmen and bowlers.
Speaking about the preparations, Hari Prasad Mohan, Performance Analyst for Team India, said the match, unlike broadcasted fixtures, required independent arrangements to ensure all performance data could be logged and analysed.
"Since this isn’t a televised game, we had to set up all the cameras ourselves. We’re using mobile phone-based cameras to get the feed before the game. The setup is simple, and the devices are extremely handy. They don’t need external power since they work via LAN cable," he explained.
The four-day match, played between squad members, is structured to create match-like scenarios, giving players a platform to chase specific performance goals. “It’s about simulation. Batsmen and bowlers know what they need to achieve. We’re also working closely with the Sports Science and Medicine (SFM) team, who are keen to log bowling workloads during the match," Mohan said.
A key feature of the setup was a clamp-mounted camera, positioned to replicate the vision typically seen in live broadcasts.
"We’ve recreated the match frame to capture high-quality data. Once connected to the laptop via LAN, the camera spins into position and is ready to record within 30 seconds," he added.
The support staff have set up a temporary operations base near the sightscreen, where the live feed is monitored, and data is reviewed in real-time. "We’ve tested the feed, it’s perfect. The footage is already being shared with coaches and stakeholders, who are happy with the results. It’s all set. Bumrah is having a red cherry is in his hand, it’s time to enjoy the match," Mohan quipped.
As India's red-ball specialists continue to gear up for the upcoming international assignments, the intra-squad clash at Beckenham serves as both a preparation ground for players and a live laboratory for the team's data and sports science units.
